1. How has your time been in Augathella?
To date, I have done six contracts in Augathella with my last contract being the ADON. Having worked in Augathella previously, it has helped me navigate through my role with ease as well as having amazing supportive staff. Augathella is a lovely little town with a friendly community which is what leads me back there so often.
2. Being a QLD-focused nurse, what are some of your favorite things to do in the sunshine state?
I have seen the awesomeness of winter sunrises and sunsets in the outback, as well as having lazy days on the coast swimming in the ocean. I enjoy road tripping to different and exciting places. I have also been lucky to have my partner travel with me on some contracts, so we have been able to enjoy these activities together.
3. What kind of benefits have you seen with living and working in rural Queensland?
As well as using my skills and knowledge I have acquired working in a city ED, I have picked up skills I never would have in Metropolitan hospitals. Working in different places and seeing how other facilities operate is so beneficial in growing as a nurse and builds more confidence in moving forward.
4. What do you enjoy most about the travel nurse lifestyle?
Overall, travel nursing has allowed me the opportunity to explore new places I would not have thought to go to previously. I have had the opportunity to see new sights and locations with the excitement of new experiences and personal growth.
5. You have done 28 placements with us! What has been the highlight of working with Affinity so far?
The biggest highlight for me would be the amazing people I have met and the beautiful friendships I have made along the way. Working with Affinity has also allowed me to achieve work/life balance which is extremely important, especially in this line of work.
6. You’ve taken many beautiful photos! Do you have a favorite shot? What’s the story behind it?
I have too many to even mention, however definitely one of my faves is this photo. It was taken on Palm Island after a 2 hour walk up the mountain. The last 10 mins of the walk was extremely steep but well worth the effort. The view was breathtaking!
7. What advice would you give other nurses who want to do travel nursing?
Do it! It is an immeasurable experience. Gain nursing experience before embarking on a contract. Having at least two years under your belt will make you a more attractive candidate to potential employers as well as giving you more confidence in your practice.
Be flexible and open-minded. Embrace the opportunity to adapt to new environments, work styles, and challenges. Be open to new experiences that can make your journey more enjoyable and enriching.
