Our Market Update for April-June 2025

What are the Main Things to Expect in Q2?

The second quarter of the year is notoriously busy. If you’re in-between contracts, or looking to secure your first, be aware that some hot-spot locations are going to be very competitive.

Going into Q2, Affinity always expects a very high volume of applications for our agency, in addition to each individual role put out by the health services. For example, in Cairns, they tend to fill a role within 10 minutes of it becoming available, seeing between 10 to 15 applications within that time period!

The solution? If you know you got the right stuff and a competitive CV, cross your fingers, but go in with reasonable expectations for the popular facilities. Otherwise, consider contracts in areas away from the typical “wish list” locations.

An Update on Victoria

An Update on Victoria

Some exciting news for Q2: we’re expecting the first statewide Victorian tender process to be finalised in May! What benefits do government tenders bring?

  • access to the widest range of roles statewide.
  • competitive packages.
  • priority notifications for new job openings.
  • the edge on being seen and picked—submissions with tendered agencies are always seen first.
  • the best opportunities and flexibility to explore the tendered state.

We’ll keep you updated once we know more!

An Update on Western Australia

An Update on Western Australia

We’ve also re-submitted to Western Australia—if you’ve kept up to date with our Market Updates, you’ll know this is an ongoing negotiation, but we’ll keep you informed once we have an outcome.

Western Australia is a big state, and a great place to work in. It represents a lot of opportunity for our nurses and midwives so we very much look forward to the future there.

Midwives, Consider This!

Midwives, Consider This!

Calling all middies! Our message to you is that we really, really recommend you get your FSEP Level 3.

We are seeing a big upwards trend in facilities requesting this. As this requirement becomes more and more common, you definitely want to make sure you have it so you have greater accessibility in terms of your applications. You don’t want to be locked out of an appealing contract just because you lack the certificate!
