Southern NSW should be on every Affinity Nurse’s hitlist for the Winter – if you are looking for snow, adventure, the coast or even a peaceful place to eat and drink – Southern NSW has everything you could want in a contract location.
Looking for the Snowy Mountains:
With the peak snow season running from May – October each year, the Southern Region is home to the Australian snow fields.
Whether you’re a novice seeing the snow for the first time or a returning slope junkie, Thredbo & Perisher have everything for any level of skill. If the thrill of the snowboard isn’t your cup of tea – visiting just for the chairlift and wine/hot chocolate at the top while you watch the beginners take the plunge down the field is well worth it!
Cooma, just over an hour away from the snow fields, is the perfect place to base yourself on contract to make the most of this year’s snow season.
Beautiful pictures of snowy Perisher – the best place to ski in NSW!
Looking for the Sapphire Coast:
Known as the hub of the Sapphire Coast, Bega is an increasingly popular location for the travel nurse. With its proximity to the coast and rainforests, Bega can offer something for every traveller. Mimosa Rocks National Park, roughly 20 minutes out of Bega, has plenty of activities or towel space on the beach for everyone.
The Southern Coast is also a peak location to watch the yearly whale migration from Aug – December. For the best experience, take a charter to get up close and personal to see whales and other sea life such as seals, dolphins and penguins.
Looking for Heritage and History:
If your interest is history, Australia’s first inland city is where you should be based. Goulburn is rich with museums, Heritage listed buildings and proud community spirit. One of the more recognisable features is the Big Marino, one of Australia’s iconic ‘Big Things’.
Rocky Hill War Memorial and Museum sits high and proud above Goulburn city. The Memorial is floodlit at night and makes for a stunning site to see from any spot around Goulburn city.
Visit the gorgeous Pambula River or the heritage-listed Goulburn Courthouse
Looking for something else?
Then how about hitting some of the Southern Coast wine and food trails? The southern region of NSW is one of Australia’s highest regarded gourmet districts for its locally produced wines, classic country pubs and an abundance of local produce.
The Southern Oyster Trails span 150km along the Coastline and encompasses 5 main Oyster estuaries in NSW. Pambula produces roughly 215,000 dozen Sydney Rock Oysters per year and is home to Captain Sponges Oyster Tours. Taking roughly 1.5 hours, a tour with ‘Sponge’ takes you out onto the Oyster estuaries where you get a crash course on farming. Enjoy the leisurely float back home again along the Pambula River, which is dotted with Aboriginal Middens.
Or why not take a trip to the Bega Cheese Heritage Centre, home to the most iconic cheese in Australia, produced locally since 1899. Cheese tasting tour – Need we say more?
