Our top travel nursing tips for 2025

Be open to locations
Out of all the travel nursing tips, the most important one is to be open to the many locations throughout Australia. Rural, regional, remote—there’s so many to choose from and being flexible with your preferences will go a long way in securing contracts.
“Going where the work is” is a simple, yet effective strategy. We’ll definitely always try and scope out your first preference, though! But in short, play to your strengths, and be open to new things.

Think rural
It’s a big country out there, with so many cute and quirky little rural towns. Not only is thinking rural a great opportunity to hone your skill-set and have a really different experience, but these smaller locations desperately need experienced health staff like you.
You’ll add to your CV advantageous experiences you just can’t get in larger facilities and areas. Help out smaller communities and forward your career. It’s a win-win!

Prepare your paperwork
It’s the travel nursing tip you perhaps don’t want to hear—but making sure your paperwork is prepared is always a big help!
When your paperwork is ready to go, you are ready to go. This helps us to get you submitted quickly, and makes it much easier for all parties involved.

Be open to advice
Your specialist is there to support you during and in-between contracts, so it’s a good idea to make clear your preferences and deal-breakers. Likewise, being open to their suggestions and advice will always yield good results. Remember, they know the best information about the market!

Socialise!
Make the most of the community around you while on contract. Chances are you’ll run into other fellow Affinity nurses or midwives at your hospital, so consider making some lasting connections and stay in touch!
All agency nurses and midwives are going through similar experiences as you are, so it’s always nice to have that additional support.
And even if you are going to a remote location, onboarded Affinity nurses and midwives can access the private Affinity Community Facebook group to stay in contact with one another!

Invest in good shoes and a camera
When travelling Australia, a good pair of walking shoes is as good as gold. Beach walks, hiking trails, nearby parks—a good pair can take you anywhere!
And we always love seeing your pics, so brush up on your snapping skills with your phone, or bring along a fancy camera. We love to see what you get up to.
