Whether you have just arrived from overseas or are required to self-isolate due to interstate travel – there is one thing for sure; 14 days can quickly go from being a breeze to something resembling cabin fever without planning and preparation! So Affinity Nursing is here to help you with things to do in Self Isolation!

First and foremost, keeping a positive mindset is key to getting through the 14 days. Self-isolation, social distancing and lockdowns can create a sense of anxiety and dread. It’s a tricky time to keep yourself busy and well and there are a few things you can do to help your sense of sanity.

KEEP YOUR MIND ACTIVE

Rummage through the back of your cupboard and pull out a puzzle or blow the dust off a boardgame and strike up a game. Don’t live in the 90’s anymore and thrown out all your boardgames? Or staying in a hotel or hospital accommodation without any? Jump on your phone and download some apps, whether it is Tetris or solitaire – playing a game is a great way to keep your mind active and also have some fun. Our go to is the classic activity of reading a book to pass the time. The Australian libraries also have a wealth of great books, audiobooks and magazines (for a lighter read) online for easy access! Here is the link to the QLD library. Don’t forget to check in and facetime friends and family to keep up your social norms as much as you can!

KEEP YOUR BODY MOVING

Missing your daily (or monthly) gym visit? There are plenty of ways you can keep active that don’t involve going into the outside world. There is a load of fitness apps with great exercises you can do without the equipment in the gym and using household items. Always wanted to try Yoga but never had the time? Well now you do! Check out some to try below:

  1. KIC Virtual Gym
  2. Damon Bell’s Home Exercises
  3. Yoga with Adrienne

BE PRODUCTIVE

Always wanted to upskill but could never find the time? 14 days is an amazing time to do professional development certificates– or do that extra online course you were going to do. Not only will it help your mental health, having something productive to do but may also secure you a new contract! Always wanted to do your SA immunisation update or complete a triage certificate? Now may be the time.
