What You Can Do to Improve Your Job Prospects

3 minute read

1. Communicate!

It may sound common sense, but communication is your biggest asset. The agency market is dynamic. We are constantly working with changing supply and demand.

Clear and frequent communication with your recruitment consultant and placement specialist are paramount to ensure you secure the placement YOU want.

2. Locational ‘Wish List’

We are a non-commission agency and pride ourselves on pairing nurses with their preferences. One of the best ways to help us find you an enjoyable placement, is to tell us a wish-list of locations. This helps us understand your preferences and helps focus our energy to make this happen.

However, the more flexible you are in terms of locations, the higher chance we have of securing you a position for your date range. Tell us what you enjoy doing in your time off as this help us recommend a suitable location in case we can’t secure your dream destination on this occasion.

So, don’t be scared! Tell us what you enjoy and be willing to try something different. Our team draws upon years of experience and utilises this knowledge for every placement.

Whether it is scuba diving, bush walking, or maybe just bending the elbow at the local watering hole, whatever it is that tickles your fancy we want to know!

3. Convey Your Availabilities

Everyone has a life outside work, but we don’t know your commitments unless you tell us! If you are going overseas or out bush for a few days without reception, please let us know.

Contracts are lost when we can’t contact you, so please let us know so we can work around this. Similarly, if you have a wedding or birthday in-between your upcoming availabilities, let our team know.

We have great relationships with our clients and depending on the facility, can negotiate time off during your contract. But you need to let us know in advance.

4. Suitable Referee Options

One of the crucial steps in securing you a contract is completing some reference checks. Your recruitment consultant will advise you with the requirements here, but make sure your referee knows your plans and is happy to be contacted.

Again, contracts are lost when we can’t contact your referees, so find suitable referee who are happy to brag about your skills!

These reference checks are sent off to the facility, so it is important to get the most senior nurses that you can to sell your ability.

5. Paperwork

Arguably, the most hated part of the process but often, the most crucial. We have done our best to make this process as painless as possible, with links, frequently asked questions and a streamlined process but it works both ways.

Reading your checklist thoroughly and working proactively is another great way to help ensure you have the best chance to secure that dream role.

Most locations won’t accept your applications without this paperwork. It is important to get this done as early as possible.

6. Say Thanks and Share Your Experiences!

We are all about helping you have the best placement you can! We love to hear what you are up to in your travels. At the end of the day, making you happy is what brings us to back to the office every morning.
